We arrived in the evening on Wednesday. We had a dinner and went to our first location to get some sleep. Five days before we left to Canada I went full blonde and when we arrived instead of looking like Marilyn Monroe I looked like somebody made some scrambled eggs on my head. So our first attraction in North America was finding a hairdresser and saving my hair. Lunch at Boston pizza made us really like this place and whenever we were on our way to next locations we always looked for it, because we trusted them that they will feed us well. In the late afternoon we went to Jess’ parents’ house, but somehow the navigation guided us to the wrong house. We went on this property to check and we ended surrounded with three horses. I have to admit that we really got scared. But we decided to give them a chance. We talked to them slowly and calmly, stroke them on their heads and they seemed to like us. So they walked us back to the car. Later Philipp picked us up and we made it for a nice evening with Jess’ family.
On Friday we went for a quick swim in the lake nearby and afterwards we picked up Adam from the airport. We dropped him at Jess’ and we went for a walk to the Sheep Valley before the evening grill with all the wedding guests.
On Saturday we got ready and went for the ceremony at 1.00 pm. It was beautiful and worships song where really great. I took part in a surprise flash-mob singing Joyfull, joyfull. The locations was really nice. We had some talks and a great dinner. After Jess and Philipp went for their honeymoon we stayed with a couple of friends at the bar and had fun. So no surprise we slept in the next Sunday.
We arrived in Canmore in the afternoon and started with having a pizza. We had our own apartment with small kitchen area and a big TV. After intense days we could finally start our holidays. We went for a dip in the hot pool that was in our hotel and that evening we discovered the HGTV about buying and renovating houses. From that moment, whenever we had a TV we watched these programs at least once a day. My favourite was the BEACH HUNTERS. On Monday we went to Lake Louise and then we hiked to Lake Agnes. In the evening we had great food and fun with Simone and Micheal.
On Tuesday we slept in and despite the rainy day we went canoeing in the afternoon. We were lucky because the mosquitoes didn’t bite too much and the rain stopped. Afterwards we went for some Mexican food and to the cinema to see Baby Driver. We didn’t fall in love with the film, but we had fun.
On Wednesday we went for BANFF GONDOLA. This time we weren’t very lucky because it was quite foggy and cloudy, but we still managed to take a few nice photos. Afterwards we went to our next location Revelstoke.
On our way to Revelstoke we stopped at Heather Mountain Lodge. The food was absolutely delicious, but because the portions were huge we didn’t manage to eat our food so we took the rest of the ribs with us.
In Revelstoke we had a fun photo shoot on the bridge. After a long day with travelling on Thursday we slept in.In the afternoon we went to HALCYON HOT SPRINGS. We had a dip in a few pools with different temperatures and a swim in a normal swimming pool. For dinner we had fish and chips and then we went back to our place in Revelstoke.
On Friday on our way to Glacier National Park we stopped at Giant Cedars Boardwalk. Later we hiked the Great Glacier Trail. It was a 10 kilometers hike, but it was totally worth it. Because of the hiking we arrived after midnight at our new location in Kelowna.
Exhausted after hiking and travelling Friday we decided to have a pool day on Saturday. Our hosts had a pool in their garden with crazy big duck in sunglasses. We had so much fun that day. In the evening we went wine tasting to two wineries, for a walk and a dinner. In the end of the day we still did a few nice things although we thought we will be only dying that day.
On Sunday we had a really long way to go so we just packed and went off. We were heading to Vancouver. We made it to the last mass at 8.00 pm at Holy Rosary Cathedral. Afterwards we tried some food at Ramen Gojiro. The food was good if you are really a fan. I guess I am not so much.
On Monday we went to the Vancouver Aquarium. One of the main attractions there. We fell in love with the otters and the dolphins and we literally spent half of our day there. Then we rented bikes and we cycled around the Stanley Park. Absolutely beautiful views. We finished the day with the dinner at the Hook, which was our best food experience. They actually opened just few days before, so we were really lucky to be able to have a meal there. Then we went for the dessert to the Blind Sparrow and came back home very late. On Tuesday we definitely had a slow and long morning.
In the afternoon we went for a walk to Jones Gallery looking for art by PAUL MORSTAD. After the culture experience we went back to the city center. We had a snack in GASTOWN, the oldest part of the city and we enjoyed the steam clock, which was fun, but maybe not as impressive as it seems in all the travel guides. Then we had a totally unimpressive shopping experience, but after that we went to the restaurant on the Top of Vancouver Revolving Restaurant that had 360 degrees view on the city and and the floor was turning, so in an hour we were able to see the whole city. The food was great, the view was amazing and our waitress was Magda from Poland. So we had a wonderful last evening in Vancouver.
We missed our reservation for the ferry to Vancouver Island, so we had to wait in the car for and hour and a half. At the beginning J. was really not happy with situation, but then we managed the waiting time pretty well. I edited some photos in that time and he listened to a podcast. We took the later ferry and made it to Nanaimo. From that city we still had almost three hours to Ucluelet. We had a really nice meeting with a bear on our way. He was chilling by the main road and we even managed to take a photo of him.
We arrived really late and tired. That was our longest trip if you count all the hours in the car. But the place we had in Ucluelet was stunning. We had a view on a bay and private small beach. Although we were tired, we couldn’t sleep in the next day because we had booked whale watching.
We got up and went for the most popular tourist attraction on Vancouver Island. We decided to go for a speed boat instead of the traditional one and it was a good choice. Because looking for animals takes time, then you see them for a moment and then they are gone again. It is a beautiful experience but it was good that we also could have fun on the speed boat. Because we didn’t have time to recover after our travelling day, after very early dinner at 5 pm we went back to bed and watched HGTV.
Friday was a very rainy day. We stayed half of the day in our room. But later we decided it is time to move. We went for the dinner with an ocean view. So despite the really cold and windy weather we were able to enjoy ocean in a very comfortable way. We had a great dinner at the Pointe there and decided to go for small walk to a hidden beach recommended to us by our waiter. We came back to our lovely room and had some peaceful time.
On our way to Victoria we manged to solve all our problems. We had great discussions in the car and despite the fact it was a quite long journey I think it was one of the most enjoyable ones. In the evening we went to the EMPRESS, which is mentioned as a place to see in Victoria and we had a real, Italian pizza there. The food was so good, that we came again the next day. But that day we had a really fun night out.
The next day we strolled around the city a little bit and went to GLAD TIDINGS Church for the Sunday service. This evening we managed to get a table on the terrace with a view on the bay. We had a very peaceful evening and went to bed quite reasonably.
On our last day in Victoria we went for a scenic drive around the cost. We had a beautiful view on the ocean and the snowy mountains. This combinations is quite impressive there. In the evening we went to The Mint for the dinner and Fintan O’Brien‚s concert. We have seen this guy playing on the street on our first evening in Victoria and really liked his music. He mentioned about the concert on Monday, so we planned to spend our last evening in Canada with his music. On our way home we stopped at the Irish Times and listened to some Irish live music. So in the end of the day it was a very musical goodbye to Canada.
